You’re more likely to find a safe car parking space in Manchester than almost anywhere else in the UK.
According to the British Parking Association’s Safer Parking Scheme, there are 94 car parks in the city that have achieved the Park Mark Award.
A Park Mark is given to car parks that have low crime and various safety measures in place, and is used to help drivers find car parks where they can confidently leave their vehicle and know it will be safe.
The 94 car parks in Manchester that have met these standards means there are an impressive 55,410 car parking spaces available in the city that are safe to use.
Even with the approximate 142,000 cars that are registered in the city, that leaves Manchester with one of the highest rates of safe parking spaces in the whole of the UK – with 391 safe spaces per 1,000 cars.
That’s much higher than the UK average, which sees just 50 safe car parking spaces per 1,000 cars.
Areas with a higher rate of safe parking than Manchester include Crawley and Uttlesford, which are helped by the low numbers of cars on their roads.
Meanwhile, South Derbyshire only has one car park that bears the mark, meaning there are just 19 safe car parking spaces to go round the 53,000 cars registered in the area.
