A38 near Derby set to close overnight until May
Highways bosses have announced that a major road out of Derby will shut overnight for several months, causing significant disruption for motorist.
From tonight, the A38 northbound between the Little Eaton roundabout and the A610 Ripley roundabout will be shut every week night from 8pm until 6am until spring.
The work, which will take place Monday to Friday, will include maintaining the drainage system, resurfacing the carriageway and refreshing the road markings and road studs.
Road chiefs from Highways England have said they need to close the road overnight to ensure a “safe environment for its workforce and customers”.
A spokesperson from Highways England said: “We’re planning to carry out essential maintenance work on the northbound A38 between the Little Eaton roundabout and the A610 Ripley roundabout.
“The work includes clearing overgrown vegetation, maintaining the drainage system, resurfacing the carriageway and refreshing the road markings and road studs.
“Once completed, all road users will benefit from the improved road safety and smoother carriageway, giving a more pleasant driving experience.
“To maintain a safe environment for our workforce and customers, we will need to close the northbound carriageway overnight. During the closures, we will put in place fully signed diversion routes, which we have agreed with local authorities”.
