Amberon TM | Looking back as company celebrates 18th birthday
On the 8th April 2002, Amberon Limited was formed.
Since then, the company has prided itself on safety, reliability and delivering exceptional service, and this ethos has now delivered 18 years in business.
Throughout that 18-year existence, the company has grown dramatically.
With Amberon’s first depot in Paignton, Devon opening in 2002, and the latest of 28 operational depots opening in Kent in 2020 It can be safely said that Amberon TM has evolved into a truly nationwide provider.
In the beginning…
The company was started by David Burnett and Andy Pegg, who saw an opportunity for a company to specialise in hiring out battery powered traffic lights. Now, you are just as likely to see one of their IPVs on the motorway network in England and Wales.
With a team comprising just 4 people in 2002, Amberon looked rather different then to the present day, where over 600 employees now call Amberon home.
Starting out with their own vehicles working on local projects in the South West, Dave, Andy and the team carved out a stellar reputation. But, Amberon’s ambitions quickly went beyond regional TM schemes.
In 2005 Amberon secured its first depot outside of the South West when they expanded into South Wales to service a number of newly secured clients.
Through the years
The secret to the Amberon success has always been having a family-focused business and although Dave and Andy have moved on from the business, a number of family members remain – including Dave’s daughter Tracy, who now runs the payroll department for the entire group!
In fact, Tracy has been at Amberon since day 1 and is still a key member of the team!
Having a plan has always been key at Amberon, knowing what they want to achieve and not being afraid to pursue it has been crucial, as well as subsequently then giving people the tools to achieve these objectives.
There has always been a great sense of team spirit and camaraderie at Amberon. This has helped shaped the culture of the business and is cited as one of the standout reasons why many people have worked at Amberon for so long. The likes of Ryan Harris and Dane Lacey both started on the roads and have since worked up to become Regional Directors of the company – all whilst keeping their own unique brand of humour.
Where are they now?
Over the last 18 years, the company’s development from those humble beginnings is dramatic to say the least.
Now, Amberon TM operates over 500 TM vehicles, 1400+ traffic signals, 32 IPV vehicles and has formed and developed its own In-house servicing department for asset maintenance.
Their industry leading approach is reflected by their safety accreditations; Achilles UVDB Verified, Achilles Building Confidence, CHAS, SMAS and Constructionline as well as the long held NHSS accreditations for 12D, 12AB and 12C for traffic management.
Operating 24/7, 365 days a year, the company is dedicated to servicing their customers, with no time or date out of reach when help is needed.
Over the last 18-24 months, Amberon TM has become one of 4 companies under the Amberon Group umbrella of companies, as Amberon has broadened its offerings with JTM Road Signs, Barrier Services Ltd and MLP Traffic.
Amberon continue to plan to open new depots once the coronavirus crisis is behind us, as well as expanding on the foundations of the group to further enhance the offering to their customers.
Dan East, Amberon TM Commercial Director spoke to us as the company clocks up 18 successful years:
“We would firstly like to thank all of our customers, old and new, for supporting us throughout the years and we look forward to many more years working with you all.
“Secondly, a thank you to our team, and every team member over the last 18 years for the hard work that has enabled Amberon to have such longevity and potential for growth.
“Finally, we would like to add a message of encouragement to everyone who, like ourselves, will be celebrating their Birthday in quarantine: This will pass, and we can all celebrate our Birthdays the way we are meant to; Surrounded by family and friends enjoying the occasion together.”
