Introducing Rhinophalt©

Rhinophalt® is a state of the art product that addresses the major challenge of how to preserve, protect and extend the life of expensive asphalt infrastructure – urban roads and pavements, highways, expressways, airport runways and taxiways, automotive tracks and parking lots.

Rhinophalt® is fundamentally different to other surface treatment products – such as seal coats, slurry seals or surface dressing – in that it treats the existing wearing course, specifically, the bituminous binder which is essential to the overall strength, durability and flexibility of the pavement.

Rather than adding a new layer of a surface, Rhinophalt® penetrates the existing wearing course and seals in essential oils and resins, whilst at the same time improving the binding and waterproofing properties of the existing surface.

As a result, the treated surface will become more resistant to abrasion, stone loss, water ingress and the severe ageing effects of extreme temperatures. By minimising the occurrence of cracking, crazing and potholes, Rhinophalt® reduces dramatically the need for reactive maintenance and has been demonstrated to provide significant life extension to the wearing course, thereby delaying the need for resurfacing or other remedial treatments.

Rhinophalt® brings customers the following benefits:

• Financial

Rhinophalt® will typically save at least one resurfacing within the design life of the pavement over a 20 year period, if not two or more, whilst also reducing significantly the cost of unplanned maintenance and repair. One of ASI’s largest motorway concession customers is confident of achieving whole life savings of close to 40%.

• Operational

Less maintenance intervention, be it planned or unplanned, improves road or airport availability. In addition, Rhinophalt® is a rapid process and a fast cure product, so disruption is kept to an absolute minimum (a road can be opened within 1-2 hours after application).

• Environmental

Reduction of repair and deferral or avoidance of resurfacing will save many tonnes of CO2, thereby reducing substantially the asset’s carbon footprint.
