Award Shortlist for County Council Control Centre
Hertfordshire County Councils state of the art control centre which offers better public transport information for people across the county has been shortlisted for an award.
The Hertfordshire Integrated Transport Control Centre (ITCC) has been shortlisted for the CIHT/Colas Technological Application Award in this years Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation Awards.
This award celebrates the use of technology in the highways and transportation industry where a marked positive benefit has been achieved.
Hertfordshires roads are some of the busiest in the country. It is estimated that 4.5million journeys are made every day and in 2013 there were 7783 reported incidents throughout the county. This means that roads can quickly become congested.
This is where the control centre helps. From this facility in Hertford officers from Hertfordshire County Council and Ringway monitor the roads through transport control operational planning and delivery – all supported by innovative technology. This close monitoring of Hertfordshires roads means that the ITCC operatives can respond quicker than ever before to emergency situations and ease congestion.
Rob Smith Deputy Director of Environment at Hertfordshire County Council said: This award recognised the ITCC and our wider programme to develop intelligent transport systems. Our aim is to make Hertfordshire a better place to live and work and ensure that the county has reliable transport routes that help our economy to thrive.
Jerry Pert Regional Director of Ringway said: I am delighted weve been shortlisted for this prestigious award. The ITCC co-located with our Operations Hub is at the heart of everything that happens on the road network in Hertfordshire. Our operatives monitor the network continuously which enables our response crews to deal with incidents faster than ever before. A constant flow of information between the ITCC and our maintenance crews is essential to make the best use of our resources and keep the road network as safe and free flowing as possible.
The CIHT award winners will be announced at the annual awards ceremony taking place on 11 June 2014 at the Royal Courts of Justice.
