Barrier replacement to see stretch of Glasgow's M8 motorway close
The latest barrier replacement work on the M8, costing £300,000, began lastnight, July 23rd.
A stretch of the M8 will close tonight in order to replace barriers.
The project is part of a £2.5million programme to replace 12km of M8 road barrier, and some 600m near Glasgow Airport is next on the agenda. The latest work, costing £300,000, will focus on J26 Glasgow Airport.
Work will run Sunday to Thursday each week until the end of August, with closures in place 8pm until 6am.
Laura Gray, Scotland TranServ’s deputy planned maintenance manager, said: “We’ve worked alongside Glasgow Airport, Police Scotland and the local authorities to carefully schedule this project in order to reduce disruption to the travelling public.
“These barriers are at the end of their maintainable life and in need of replacement. In the spring, we completed the replacement of over two kilometres of barrier, which ran smoothly, finishing three weeks ahead of schedule.”
The closure will include two lanes of motorway eastbound and one westbound.
Traffic management will be installed once traffic calms and the number of cars is sufficiently low, lasting until 6am each morning.
