Blakedale | A new home sees the dawn of a new era
Is there a better feeling than standing on the brink of a new dawn and a prosperous new era?
As Autumn sets in for 2019, this is the feeling Blakedale is currently revelling in, and it’s the company’s sustained growth that has laid the groundwork for the excitement.
Blakedale, the largest privately-owned supplier of specialist self-drive traffic management and support vehicles in the UK, is in the midst of moving to a new residence. For over 20 years, the company has called Swansea Mill, Mill Lane, Chorley, their home.
Late 2019 has seen the company move its workshop into an impressive new abode to provide the necessary platform for its continued growth. The Blakedale office staff will also move to the new site in the near future.
A new era
The company has moved the hub of their operation from Mill Lane to recently acquired premises on Matrix Park, Buckshaw Village. Blakedale’s advanced facility is a 15,000 sq ft unit, providing upgrades to Mill Lane in terms of logistics, layout, space and importantly with crash cushions, height!
Blakedale Managing Director Carmen Bowley told us:
“At Mill Lane, our workshop was housed in a 19th Century cotton mill building which, for a time, served its purpose. However, as the business continued to expand, the location became overcrowded, to say the least.
“As the years have gone by, the limitations of Mill Lane became increasingly challenging, and in order to achieve the type of further growth we are striving for, this exciting change was necessary.
“In particular our larger workshop now gives us more capacity to be able to provide our services to third parties, something for which there has always been a demand. Now, at last , we can accommodate all that demand.”
A focus on people
It was clear that bigger premises were needed, and both available working space and height were paramount considerations when searching for a new home. However, equally important for Blakedale was to consider how the switch would affect their industrious, productive and talented workforce.
With the new site just 2 miles away from Mill Lane, the move is, logistically, very workforce friendly, and doesn’t impact negatively on Blakedale’s staff.
“As a family-owned and run business, we value our staff very highly, so it was extremely important to us that our move took into consideration the needs of our entire workforce.
“We knew we needed new premises to be able to achieve our goals, but we were always determined that this wouldn’t be disruptive to the lives of our team and wouldn’t cause any major upheaval.
“Our new home now gives us everything we were looking for as we move forward into this exciting new chapter.”
