Blakedale | This is not ‘just’ any office, this is the brand new Blakedale office
Self-drive traffic management specialist Blakedale Ltd has recently completed its move to a new state of the art facility containing both office space and workshop, in Buckshaw Village, Lancashire.
The highly regarded Chorley based company completed the move recently to their new 18,000sq ft home.
However, this is not just an office move. In fact, the new Blakedale facility is anything but ‘just’ an office.
The nature of the highways sector means functional sites are very much the norm, and while these are often perfectly adequate for the requirements, creature comforts and style can be overlooked in lieu of practical constraints.
The new Blakedale site, however, incorporates style as well as substance. Staff wellbeing, satisfaction and comfort were chief considerations when it came to the design and development of their new work environment.
“In normal circumstances, our staff spend a lot of their time in the office and we were so keen to achieve the right result for everybody that we employed an interior designer to help us through the process.” Said MD, Carmen Bowley.
The company’s new home provides a number of spacious offices across 2 storeys, showcasing the bold and vibrant interior design throughout. The premises also houses two kitchen areas for staff in the office complex, as well as a further breakout area for staff to relax over lunchtime with the option of tuning into the HD big screen TV to catch up on the news, or the lunchtime magazine programmes. The operations team also has its own kitchen and dining facility which has the luxury of enough space to enable social distancing while still being able to catch up with colleagues
Furthermore, there is a very impressive multifunctional board room, which includes leisure facilities for staff – including a pool table which has proved to be a big hit and has led to some hotly contested games.
All this is in addition to a dedicated high roofed workshop space of 14,000sq which can house several fully built vehicles, as well as the Blakedale stock of road marker posts that can be seen the length and breadth of the UK’s road network. The facility’s high roof means that the IPV’s can be worked on with the cushions and light arrows fully extended in the upright position which is a major benefit for the Blakedale technicians.
In addition to the renowned self-drive hire side of the business, Blakedale now has the additional service, maintenance, build and repair operation which is available to clients who operate in the traffic management sector. Over recent months Blakedale has recruited four new members of staff to facilitate the growth, which provides further positive news against the backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The additional space that Blakedale’s new home provides will help to support the continued expansion of both the self-drive hire fleet and the service, maintenance, build and repair division of the rapidly expanding business, all in addition to its road marker posts division – a mainstay of the company since its early days.
Established in 1997, the family-owned company currently has approximately 350 vehicles on its fleet, with a further 40 to be added before the end of 2020.
MD Carmen added:
“The hire desk was busier than ever during the lockdown as roadworks continued as usual. We expect this to continue into 2021 and beyond as Government infrastructure spending is set to increase. Highways England has announced a £27 billion spending programme, which is encouraging as we continue to expand”
“During the lockdown, the majority of our office-based staff worked from home which gave us the opportunity to finish the refurbishment of new office, and we now have a fantastic new home for our workforce.
“We now feel we have premises that reflects us as a company in terms of our standards, capability and quality. Our staff already seem to feel at home here and we’re extremely proud of the facility we have developed. We look forward to a very bright future here.”
