BT-HS | A new name- and some old ones too!
They might seem be a new name in the vehicle and product supply industry – but are they? In short no!
BT-HS has been formed by industry leaders Andy Dougan, Phil Glaiser and Brit Tipp Ltd – and we popped in to find out more.
Brit Tipp, a family owned and run business has been building vehicles since 1983, they have built traffic management vehicles for Aberdeen Council, Ringway, Balfour, Amey, LCV, Bear, Blakedale and many others.
Founders Andy and Phil are both known successful characters within the TM and Highways industry. Andy started his TM career with Traiload 20 years ago, before moving to King and then Acklea, while Phil started his TM career with CCRS, moving to 2Rent and then also serving time at Acklea
We met Phil and Andy at the BT-HS site in Warrington and Andy gets down to business explaining how BT-HS was born:
“Phil and I had extensive conversations and decided that we believed we could produce better vehicles and better supporting products to the industry. We believed we could also provide this with a more focused specialised aftercare support than was available at the time. We both shared a vision and an inspiration for what we thought would be an ideal support company to the TM and Highways Industry.”
“We knew that strategically and commercially Andy and I were ideally suited to make such a venture work. We decided early on that we wanted to partner with a body builder and we approached Brit-Tipp as they are an expert in the field.
“They have been building Highways and TM vehicles for years, and due to the quality of their vehicle builds, some companies had even been rebadging the Brit-Tipp vehicle product as their own!
“The quality of the production was exactly what was needed for our vision, so with this partnership confirmed we soon agreed terms with all our other key suppliers – and we hit the ground running.”
“We certainly did! As soon as we started the company and it became common knowledge, we received a lot of attention.
“We received our first vehicle build orders within a week of operating and we have not looked back since”
The company has indeed hit the ground running, when we visited their HQ in Warrington; staff were certainly busy carrying out their work to meet demand.
BT-HS already have a solid number of vehicles out on the network and say their standard IPV body build ‘is distinctive and that you can tell from some distance it looks more robust and well made.’
They all have very large cone wells, LED lighting all round – in all the under-body boxes, sign frame, 4 working lights illuminating the working body and six working lights illuminating the road area.
It comes with the industry influencing sliding drop sides and fall arrest system that Brit-Tipp first designed and built.
There are practical simple solutions all over the vehicle and you can tell they are obsessed with safety and quality. Recording cameras, tracking, side scan and audible turning alarms as standard. Distinct colour coded access and egress points with colour coded load restraint mechanisms.
So, we had to ask: what are BT-HS planning for the future?
“Traffic lights and sundry products” says Andy
“We have started supplying the Nissen LZA traffic and pedestrian light with a BT-HS upgrade to secure the battery box”
“In addition to fulfilling our busy build schedule we also have also been working with a European partner to develop a prototype vehicle.” adds Phil
“It’s very difficult to temper our excitement about what we have in development, naturally we want to shout it from the rooftops but unfortunately we cannot – just yet”
