BT-HS | Living Wage Foundation accreditation is awarded for commitment to a fair day’s pay

BT-HS is accredited by the Living Wage Foundation
BT-HS is extremely proud to announce its latest accreditation as it joins the Living Wage Foundation’s fully accredited Living Wage Employer ranks.
In a commitment to a fair day’s pay for a hard day’s work, BT-HS now voluntarily pays all members of staff in line with the real Living Wage based on the cost of living in 2022 and doesn’t settle for its workforce earning the national minimum wage.
At BT-HS, this extends wholly throughout the business, meaning that even BT-HS apprentices are paid in line with the real Living Wage.
So, what is the real Living Wage?
The real Living Wage is the only UK wage rate that is voluntarily paid by almost 10,000 UK businesses who believe their staff deserve a wage which meets everyday needs – like the weekly shop, or a surprise trip to the dentist.
Almost 300,000 employees have received a pay rise as a result of the Living Wage campaign. The real Living Wage has a broad range of employers accredited with the Foundation including half of the FTSE 100, as well as big household names including Nationwide, Google, Brewdog, Everton FC and Chelsea FC.
THE LIVING WAGE FOUNDATION
In April 2016 the government introduced a higher minimum wage rate for all staff over 25 years of age inspired by the Living Wage campaign – even calling it the ‘national living wage’.
However, this wage is not calculated according to what employees and their families need to live. Instead, it is based on a target to reach 66% of median earnings by 2024. Under current forecasts this means a rise to £10.50 per hour by 2024 and from 2021 was adjusted to include those over 23 years old. The government minimum takes into account what is affordable for businesses.
The real Living Wage rates are higher because they are independently calculated based on what people need to get by.
BT-HS

MD Phil Glaiser told us:
“We were passionate about the Living Wage accreditation and I’m extremely proud and happy we have obtained it. With the cost of living in 2022 seemingly on an endless increase, we can’t have an environment where our people are giving everything they have in terms of time and effort, and still going home at the end of the day with money troubles when it comes to being able to provide a healthy standard of living for themselves and their families.
“Volunteering into this scheme shows that we’re truly passionate about our people, and that we won’t just settle for what we can ‘get away with’ paying our staff. One element we were especially keen to implement was that our apprentices also receive this level of pay. There is no ‘them and us’ between our longer-term staff members and our apprentices. It’s one team, and everyone is treated, and now paid, with that being very clear.”
