Coeval | Pioneering Innovation at the LCRIG Innovation Festival 2023

Local Council Roads Innovation Group’s (LCRIG) innovation festival, will take place from 4-5 July at Newark Showground.
The event gives local authorities the opportunity to meet suppliers and an insight to new, innovative products and solutions available to meet current and future challenges. The event is linked to the LCRIG Innovation Fund which provides funding and matches innovators with local authorities to trial these new products and solutions.
Coeval are attending the Festival for the first time and look forward to discussing products and solutions with Local Authorities. One project in the pipeline is a partnership with Earthsense, a supplier of air quality monitoring systems. These provide real-time air quality data. The EarthSense Zephyr® air quality monitors will directly interface with Coevals Cloud Control System with pre-designed messages being displayed via a Coeval Variable Message Sign (VMS). The Cloud Control System enables full monitoring and control of the VMS remotely and in real time without the need for manual intervention. Coeval hopes to discuss this cutting-edge partnership with Local Authorities keen to keep the general public informed of and promote improvement of air quality.
Coeval believes this partnership with EarthSense, could be used effectively within Clean Air Zones (CAZ) to identify diversion routes and avoid high levels of air pollution within those areas. One Local Authority has agreed to trial this system at two different school sites. Full case study and results to be published when available.
Problem Solved
In 2019, Public Health England estimated that 36,000 deaths a year were related to long-term exposure to poor air quality. The Environment Audit Committee has also estimated that total health costs, due to air pollution, range between £8.5 billion and £20.2 billion a year.
Local authorities across the UK will be given further support with their mission to improve air quality. This comes at an important time for councils, many of whom are either launching Clean Air Zones (CAZ) or investing significantly in low emission projects as well as active travel.
Local authorities and other road operators are looking more to technology to help them identify and assess areas of poor air quality and the causes before appropriate action can be taken to improve it.
Ensuring Sustainability
Sustainability is not limited to environmental considerations; it also extends to the long-term economic viability of traffic management solutions. Coeval understands the importance of protecting budgets while striving for optimal performance. At the LCRIG Innovation Festival, Coeval will highlight how its product range offers cost-effective options that deliver outstanding results, as well as how these solutions tick the boxes when it comes to human sustainability factors such as safety & roadworker abuse.
