Coeval | Protecting children with School Safety Systems
Busy roads are an ever-present potential hazard in the lives of schoolchildren; keeping them protected is essential. The walk between home and school is a particularly vulnerable point in many schoolchildren’s day, and Coeval has developed intelligent, flexible road safety solutions to help protect them.
Road safety is improving around Britain, but even one child’s life is priceless. For every life lost to a road accident, there are also many others with life-changing injuries. Government statistics show that 145 children aged 10-19 were killed by road accidents in the UK in 2015, with 3,166 more being seriously injured.
Children making the transition from primary to secondary school are particularly at risk: Experts report that the risk of road traffic accidents for these children more than doubles, due to this period being a common point where children begin to walk to school unassisted.
Keeping children safe in areas with high levels of traffic, particularly around schools, is of paramount importance. With varying school opening and closing times, an intelligent, flexible road safety system is vital to raise road users’ awareness of the influx of children, and that’s exactly what Coeval has developed.
School warning signs save lives
Coeval’s School Timer Radio Network is smart enough to makes road users change their behaviour at crucial times of the day, preventing high-speed collisions and saving children from injury and death.
Our engineers show school staff how to operate the road signs, so the system is in the hands who know when best to utilise it. For even more flexible systems, Coeval provides full matrix Variable Message Signs (VMS) that can be completely customised to the school’s desired message.
The system is designed to be flexible and user-friendly, allowing staff to easily account for schedule changes and keep the local area safe for schoolchildren at the right time.
Largs Academy case study
Coeval recently played a vital part in providing road safety infrastructure at the impressive new Largs Academy Campus on the scenic Ayrshire coast.
Russell Brown, Traffic Technician on the North Ayrshire Council, describes the problems with their existing system: “The existing flashing 20 units on our network are controlled with old type of timer using an antiquated programme that has to be run on Windows XP.”
The council approached Coeval to install 6 new school signs and provide an easy way to programme them. After accomplishing our installation of the system, Russell Brown said:
“I recently reprogrammed the signs via a Bluetooth using a tablet. The Command Console app is easy to use and the scheduler for the school signs is very manageable.”
“The before and after service with Coeval has been brilliant and I would highly recommend them and their products to anyone.”
With this new system now in place, Largs Academy can now prepare school plans with ease, and immediately react in the event of emergency school closures as experienced throughout the UK in 2018.
