Costain bags £125M highways job
Costain will deliver major improvements on the A19 as part of Highways England’s Regional Investment Programme.
The appointment comes after Highways England awarded Costain the six-year contract delivery integration partner contract for its North and East Regions in November 2018.
The work includes improvements to the Testo’s roundabout, a major link between the northern and southern sections of the A19, as well as improvements to adjacent junctions.
A development consent order for the project was granted by transport secretary Chris Grayling in September last year.
Costain chief executive Andrew Wyllie said: “I am delighted that we are at the forefront of helping Highways England deliver its ambitious regional investment programme, which will significantly enhance network capacity, improving the lives of local people and supporting broad-based economic growth.”
Work on the project is set to get underway in the coming months, with the aim of reducing congestion in the area.
Costain was originally appointed to carry out the upgrades in 2006, but the government’s 2010 Spending Review put the project on hold, before it was resurrected in Highways England’s 2015-20 Road Investment Strategy.
