Crown Highways | New near miss system for the workforce
Crown Highways Limited recognises the importance in reporting near misses and raising the importance of positive observations amongst the company workforce, to raise the profile of reporting within the company.
A new reporting card has been developed along with a number of new ways all staff can report near misses and observations to the safety team.
The new reporting card has been developed, and it allows staff to report a near miss or observation in a simple manner by recording the site, the occurrence details, and the staff member’s details. On the reverse of the card further action or the close out action is recorded and approved by a member of the safety team.

In another initiative, Crown Highways have created a dedicated safety email address and a new text service giving staff more avenues to report any near misses or observations, as we believe the more facilities we offer staff the greater number of reports we will receive.
Health and Safety Manager Sarah Fone and General Manager Mike Dale have been personally undertaking staff briefings to manage the roll out of the near miss / positive observation card and the new company wide safety induction.
General Manager Mike Dale commented:
“I believe this to be a large step in the right direction for our business and staff should be given every opportunity to feedback safety concerns/observations when they occur on site.
“It’s vitally important to us that we do all we can to make sure these incidents are reported, so that we as a company can take every possible step to avoid any similar, preventable occurrences in the future.”
