Green number plates support Eco-friendly vehicle awareness
Various countries, including India, had introduced green number plates for electric vehicles.
This step had been taken to differentiate eco-friendly cars with ordinary combustion vehicles. Recently, the UK has also implemented the same scheme to encourage people to go for EVs.
Why Green Plates?
The introduction of green number plates for EVs will help in spreading awareness and encouraging the crowd to go for electric vehicles. The public will quickly recognize the electric cars on the road. And as the numbers will increase, the green number plates on roads will increase. It will encourage people to buy an electric vehicle and not gasoline ones.
The government of the UK wanted their people to shift to EVs until 2025. For promoting the green initiative, there are many schemes for electric car owners – for example free parking, concession in various bills, etc.
Problems faced by the consumers
Many different countries have implemented this type of awareness scheme or promotion. India is also one of them. But there are some common problems, due to which the consumers are not buying electric vehicles.
First, the infrastructure is not properly set up. There are not sufficient charging stations available. The charging of an electric car takes a lot of time, because of which people are finding it very time-consuming. Also, these electric vehicles are a little bit overpriced, which is completely justified on their part. People are just not willing to invest in EVs.
Now, the only thing the government can do is to think from the consumer’s perspective. The basic requirements for an electric-powered vehicle must be fulfilled and make sure that they are easily available to the customers.
