Heidelberg Materials UK has secured a new contract to maintain and enhance Bedford’s road network, with the agreement valued at up to £30 million.
The contract, awarded by Bedford Borough Council, begins this month and may span up to five years. It follows a competitive procurement process and continues a partnership that first began in 2013. Under the renewed deal, Heidelberg Materials will be responsible for maintaining the council’s entire highway network.
The scope of work includes road and footpath resurfacing, drainage maintenance, kerb and ironwork repairs, and minor bridge improvements. Heidelberg will deliver these services in collaboration with its established network of local supply chain partners.
According to the company, the extension reflects the strength of the longstanding relationship with the council and supports a joint approach to enhancing the area’s road infrastructure while aligning with sustainability and efficiency targets. Since the start of the partnership, more than 250,000 tonnes of asphalt have been laid across the borough.
This renewed commitment to local infrastructure arrives as wider regional development plans, including a major theme park project near Bedford, signal increased investment in the area’s transport links.
