Help Me Get Home | Your safety campaign
Help Me Get Home (HMGH) is your safety campaign.
Launched by Gary Knight of Capital Traffic Management earlier this year, the campaign is setting out to offer all Traffic Management operatives a one stop shop for their safety.
With the ability to report near misses as well as look for advice and guidance in the event of any unsafe site practices, HMGH provides an independent ear to all of our nation’s road workers.
We spoke to Gary about the birth of HMGH, and the real core reasons for starting the campaign.
“I have always been interested in the safety side of traffic management since I’ve been involved.
One day I received an email with a safety notice attached to it. After reading the safety notice I thought ‘everyone should be able to read this.’ So, I thought if we had a website that everyone could have access to- then we as an industry could all share vital safety notices.”
With a concept settled on, the campaign began to take shape with a logo, name, website and blog. Soon to follow were Facebook group and Twitter Feed as the social army was born.
“From experience, I think operatives can sometimes feel pressured not to say anything about safety concerns they have on site, thinking that ‘just get on with it’ is the best mindset so they don’t risk upsetting a superior/their employer. What we want HMGH to do is provide the outlet for these types of concerns so they can still be addressed, whilst offering the anonymity a worker may require.”
As a total not for profit cause, there is no reason not to get behind HMGH. The movement is based on a passion for health and safety, and the greatest intentions to get our TM operatives home safe to their families without issue.
Calling all TM operatives- use Help me get home to help yourselves, and others avoid any unnecessary danger on our roads and carriageways. It’s dangerous enough out there- so please report every near miss, or unsafe practice at www.helpmegethome.co.uk
