Highways Maintenance & Street Lighting Back Under Council Control
Highways maintenance and street lighting are back under council control following a new contract with the Environment and Planning Department.
The new contract will support the existing Streetscene operations which are currently undertaken by Wrexham Council.
It is the council’s intention is to provide a cost effective service from the start of April.
The aim of the introduction of the new contract is to support the local economy through the use of regional and local contractors and suppliers managed directly by Wrexham Council staff. They will be engaged through a competitive selection process demonstrating quality of work and value for money.
Cllr David A Bithell, Lead Member for Transport and the Environment said: “The Council’s administration made the decision to bring the service back in house to improve the efficient delivery and quality of these services maintaining and improving our Council.”
Last month Wrexham Council also announced that almost £1m is to be invested in upgrading almost 2000 street lamps across the County Borough with energy-saving LED lamps.
