Hill and Smith Infrastructure | Hill and Smith Infrastructure Ltd team seek support as they reach final leg of ‘journey’ to Gaziantep

A team of fundraisers from Hill and Smith Infrastructure Ltd are seeking support from colleagues and clients as they complete the final leg of a virtual walk from Bilston, West Midlands to Gaziantep, Turkey to raise money for the humanitarian effort.
On Feb 6, the colleagues began collectively walking the distance from their head office, in central England, to the centre of Gaziantep – 2,563 miles.
Spurred on by the disaster in the Turkey & Syria, they have already covered more than their target of 2,563 miles with a currently total of 3,306 miles. With less than a week still to go until the end of their challenge, they are now trying to make the journey back to Bilston too.

Kathryn Cooper, Head of Environment, Social and Corporate Governance, at Hill and Smith Infrastructure Ltd (which compromises of Asset VRS, Hardstaff Barriers, Varley & Gulliver and Hill and Smith Barriers), said: “Moved by the scale of devastation in Turkey & Syria, our team has been walking as much as possible to raise as much money as possible over the last three weeks.
“We’re delighted to have already ‘reached’ Gaziantep already. We are determined to keep on walking as much as we can until the 6th March.”
So far, the colleagues have surpassed their £1000 target, thanks to donations from colleagues, customers, suppliers, friends and family.
The money raised will be donated to the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) Turkey-Syria Earthquake Appeal set up following the Earthquake on 6th February 2023.
How the money raised will help:
- £10 could provide blankets to keep two people warm
- £25 could provide emergency food for a family for ten days
- £50 could provide emergency shelter for two families
Kathryn added: “The victims of the disaster in Turkey & Syria are never far from our thoughts. If our efforts raise enough money to help just one person affected by the earthquake, we’ll be glad.
