HTM – HTM’s Late Keith Baldwin Awarded Highways Heroes Award

On Thursday 28th January, Directors Greg Baldwin, Marcus Casey and Tracy Rogers headed to London for the Highways Heroes awards at the London Hilton Park Lane, an event which recognises those who have gone above and beyond their duty, to help someone or improve a situation, either in the communities they work in or to support fellow workers in their team unconditionally.

The awards were judged by a group of industry peers led by Rich Marshall of National Highways.

Greg Baldwin, along with his mother Tracy, received an award on behalf of HTM’s late founder, Keith Baldwin, who was awarded the Kevin Jarvis Hero in Highways Award, a special trophy from the awards ceremony, previously named the Hero in Highways award.

The award comes following a nomination by Adam Mills from Up To Speed Training & Assessment Ltd, who wanted to commemorate Keith’s outstanding services to the highways industry and acknowledge his “dedication, expertise and exceptional impact within the industry, whether through leadership, innovations such as the low-level TTM vehicle, or various significant contributions to not only with HTM but several other businesses whom he aided and assisted the start-up of, many of which still service the highways industry,” commented Adam.

He continued, “It would be a fitting way to celebrate his legacy and the achievements of a career that has undoubtedly assisted and inspired future professionals of the highways industry to follow in his footsteps.”

Alongside HTM, colleagues from Up To Speed Training and Assessment, Consillium Technical Services, R&C Williams and Workwear Safety & Supplies were in attendance to celebrate Keith’s achievements and many featured in a video shown at the awards ceremony which highlighted the impact Keith had made in their own careers and lives.

Describe Keith in one word?

Answers included charismatic, genuine, kind, leader, and legend.

What inspired you the most about Keith?

“His ability to make you believe in yourself,” said Marcus Casey, HTM.

“His innovative thinking,” said Mikee Booth, HTM.

“His self-belief and determination,” said Ross Simpson, HTM.

“His people skills. It didn’t matter what walk of life you were from, he would just bring you in,” said Paulette Murphy, HTM.

“His innate passion not only for business but in equal measure towards people, and in giving them the opportunities to better themselves and reach their potential, without any agenda,” said Adam Mills, UTS. He continued, “he was the sort of person who found a joy in seeing other people succeed.”

“The sheer will to be successful and be the best. He just remained so down to earth, humble, he just had such great fun along the way,” said Nathan Beetlestone, HTM.

What’s the best advice he gave you?

“Simply sort it!” Martyn Long, HTM.

“Make the most of opportunities, because life is what you make it,” said Adam Mills, UTS.

“You can do it.” Tracy Rogers, HTM.
“Don’t be afraid to push yourself and make mistakes, but learn from those mistakes.” Ross Simpson, HTM.

“Lots of people talk about doing the big things well, but it’s doing the little things well that make all the difference.” Nathan Beetlestone, HTM.

“If you can do five days work in four, play golf on a Friday.” Marcus Casey, HTM.

Tracy Rogers, Finance Director at HTM shared her thoughts: “It’s been an honour and a privilege to work with Keith for over 25 years. His dedication and commitment made him the leader he was. His legacy of kindness, strength and integrity will continue to inspire us all.”

Nigel Drew, Chairman at R&C Williams said:

“I don’t think there’s been another individual within the traffic management industry who has done so much to make it safer, developed more safe working systems and innovation than anyone else I can think of. It was an absolute pleasure to have known him and worked with him.”

Purchasing Manager at HTM, Nathan Beetlestone added, “Keith was a true gentleman, he always brought people together. To be honest, he was the best gaffer you could ever wish for. It’s definitely the end of an ear, going forward hopefully we can all do him proud.”

Paulette Murphy, Business Administrator who has also worked with Keith for over 20 years said, “He was just a wonderful guy. I’ve never, ever, in all the years I’ve known Keith, ever heard anyone say one bad word. He was just perfect. He was just Keith.”
