HTM | Plans for the future means it’s time for a change of home
It’s exciting times for Highway Traffic Management as the company is moving to a new home.
Currently, the company is located in an ideal spot underneath the famous Spaghetti Junction. And now, the company sees a move to…Spaghetti Junction?!
Indeed, HTM will now re-locate just 2 doors down the road to keep their prime spot under Birmingham’s famous interchange.
The new property has been purchased in order to be developed into HTM’s new and improved HQ. The building works are due to start Spring 2020, and the initial aim is to have work completed and be calling their new surroundings home by 2021.
HTM has now rented their current Spaghetti Junction premises for 24 years and this requirement to move is born from both a desire to purchase and own their headquarters, as well as find a base that is large enough to facilitate the future expansion of the business in accordance with the growth seen over the last 24 years.
With the terms and formalities completed, HTM now enters this exciting new episode.
We spoke with HTM Director Greg Baldwin who gave us more information on the new site, the renovation project itself, as well as the company’s future plans:
“Firstly, we will actually be getting planning permission to demolish the new site!” Greg told us.
“With that complete, the plan is to build a bespoke TM Depot that we are aiming to make completely carbon neutral. This will be a challenge, but extremely possible as we get to design it from a blank canvas once the current site is demolished.
“The business is already taking steps for a greener future with the use of electric vehicles amongst other things, in accordance with the new ‘Clean Air Zone’ being introduced by Birmingham City Council in January 2020. As we build and develop our new site, environmental factors will play a large part in shaping what we do.
“Eventually, when works are complete and the site has seen a rejuvenation, HTM will have two sites on the same road, less than one mile apart. One will be our headquarters and 12AB Midlands Depot, and the other will be our 12D Midlands Depot.
“That means we will increase our depot capacity to meet the increasing demand of the network in the midlands.”
