HTM | Proudly Supporting Pride
Highway Traffic Management showed their support for the Birmingham Pride Parade by giving one of their low-level traffic management vehicles a makeover and taking part in the parade through Birmingham city centre.
Angel Signs and Graphics helped to complete the transformation updating the vehicle’s livery, whilst Vehicle Safety and Warning Distribution (VSWD) supplied all of the additional lights. Truck Services Stechford completed all the new handrails and new metal work on the bed of the vehicle.
Whilst some of the updates made for the weekend will need to be removed post event, the recognised HTM tyre tread pattern will retain its rainbow colours for a number of weeks and the vehicle will be used operationally to enable more people to see the vehicle in person, and to keep the conversations around Pride, inclusion and diversity going.
The traffic management business has used this event as a platform to kickstart their internal LGBTQ+ working group, which looks to engage with its workforce to support the community and create more inclusion, launching with initial conversations around the Pride event and looking to have these continue within the business long after.
Kurt and Aaron, who are two prominent figures within the operational workforce have helped form part of this working group, commented: “With the industry we work in, even in the 21st century, there is still stigma around individuals who are LGBTQ+. At HTM, we feel like we can be ourselves at work. That feeling in the fact that you can be yourself is like no other.”
With mental health something the business has always placed high importance upon, the ability for employees to be their true, authentic selves plays a key part in this. “We feel safe, happy and accepted, working for HTM,” commented Aaron.
“Diversity and inclusion are important for all businesses. Different people bring different ideas and perspectives to the workplace, and people who are able to be themselves at work tend to be happier. Businesses need to encourage this within their culture and demonstrate that these are things they truly care about. We’re hoping that this is the first of many ways we can show how important it is to us here at HTM,” commented Greg Baldwin, HTM’s Managing Director.
