HTM | HTM Return to Treecycling in 2022
With the festive season over and many people disposing of their unwanted Christmas trees, Highway Traffic Management volunteered their crews to support the Treecycling campaign run by The Hospice Charity Partnership, made up of Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice and the John Taylor Hospice.
Trees are collected from postcodes across Birmingham Sandwell and Solihull, before they’re recycled into compost and biomass fuel, stopping thousands of trees from going to landfill.
Volunteers collect the trees in exchange for a small donation, 100% of which helps provide expert palliative care and end of life care to people with life limiting illnesses and their families, across Birmingham.
HTM volunteered with 3 crews across the weekend of the 15th & 16th November, adhering to COVID-19 guidelines and collecting 160 trees, contributing to the 5,500 trees that the hospice gathered in total. The weekend raised £109,000 for local hospice care and thanks to the goodwill of volunteers and companies, 100% of donations go directly to helping to provide care to those who are living with life-limiting illness.
“The hospice relies heavily on donations from the community and the general public,” said Charlotte Dowling, Senior Community & Corporate Fundraising Manager. “COVID-19 has had a long-lasting impact upon the sector, with multiple charity shop closures and the
cancellation or postponement of various fundraising events.”
Greg Baldwin, Managing Director, who helped volunteer across the Treecycling weekend, commented: “It’s great to be able to support a local campaign such as this one. The work of The Hospice Charity Partnership has such an impact upon the individuals and families of those who require the care they are able to provide.”
“Not only that, to also have pioneered a campaign that simultaneously helps support the environment by stopping thousands of trees otherwise going to landfill is even more impressive. We’re glad to be able to support this again in 2022.”
