IAT – Collaborating with the Institute of Quarrying and the Institute of Highway Engineers to Advance Carbon Literacy

The IAT joined the Institute of Quarrying and the Institute of Highway Engineers to Deliver Carbon Literacy Training Ahead of Carbon Literacy Action Day earlier this week.

The Institute of Asphalt Technology (IAT) is proud to announce the new collaboration with the Institute of Quarrying (IQ) and the Institute of Highway Engineers (IHE) to promote carbon awareness and sustainability across key infrastructure sectors.

In recognition of Carbon Literacy Action Day – a global day of learning and climate action which took place on 13th November 2025 – the IAT delivered Carbon Literacy training earlier this week, on 11th November 2025.

The annual International Carbon Literacy Action Day is the world’s largest climate education and action training event of its kind. From every corner of the globe, thousands of people of all ages, backgrounds, and nationalities will unite to undergo their day of Carbon Literacy training, catalysing action on climate change and delivering positive change wherever they are.

The Action Day 2025 coincided with COP30 – the pinnacle climate event of the year.

So, while world leaders gathered to discuss and negotiate on climate policy in Belém, Brazil, Carbon Literacy learners were on-the-ground learning, collaborating and becoming empowered to act and drive impactful, tangible change.

Leading the initiative was IAT President Helen Bailey, who, via her own company, Driven, is fully qualified to deliver accredited Carbon Literacy training through the Carbon Literacy Project – a globally recognised organisation dedicated to empowering individuals and organisations to take meaningful action against climate change through education.

Helen’s involvement in this initiative reflects both her personal commitment and the IAT’s dedication to supporting the industry’s transition to a more sustainable future. The training, delivered by Driven at no cost whatsoever, equipped professionals from the IAT, IQ, and IHE with practical knowledge about carbon impacts, emission reduction, and the role of infrastructure specialists in tackling the climate emergency.

Importantly, the IAT’s participation came at no cost to the IQ or IHE. Helen gave her time and expertise voluntarily, further highlighting the Institute’s ethos of collaboration, education, and shared responsibility for driving change.

The Carbon Literacy Project focuses on building awareness of the carbon costs and impacts of everyday activities, empowering people to make informed decisions that lead to measurable reductions in emissions. By hosting this training in the lead-up to Carbon Literacy Action Day, the IAT and its partners are demonstrating leadership in sustainability and setting an example for other professional institutions across the UK.
