IAT – IAT Launches Young Asphalt Professionals Group to Support the Next Generation

The Institute of Asphalt Technology (IAT) has announced the launch of its new Young Asphalt Professionals (YAP) group – a dedicated space created to support younger people working across the asphalt sector and help strengthen the future of the industry.

Established by the IAT Council Education Committee, YAP has been designed as a platform on LinkedIn where early-career professionals can connect, share ideas, learn from one another, and build meaningful relationships across the sector.

The initiative reflects the IAT’s commitment to attracting new talent into the industry while ensuring that those entering the profession feel supported, valued, and connected from the outset of their careers.

YAP will provide an inclusive environment for conversation and collaboration. Whether members are asking questions, sharing experiences, discussing innovation, or simply getting to know others working in asphalt, the group is intended to become a valuable community where younger professionals can engage openly and develop their confidence within the sector.

The IAT recognises that bringing younger people into the industry is only part of the challenge. Retaining talent and helping individuals build long-term careers is equally important.

By creating a shared space for networking, support, and growth, the Institute is investing in the people who will shape the future of asphalt technology, highways maintenance, and infrastructure delivery.

This makes YAP an important example of sustainability in a broader sense. While sustainability is often associated with environmental responsibility, it also applies to the long-term health of industries and professions.
