Assistant Structural Engineer – Glasgow
Blueprint Recruitment Ltd is currently working with one of the leading operating companies for the management and maintenance of roads and bridges in Scotland. Due to the acquisition of a new contract they have the requirement to add an Assistant Structural Engineer to their team on a permanent contract.
ROLE PURPOSE
To assist in the function of the Bridges team; to assist in the delivery of bridge and highway structures schemes including inspections, assessments and designs; supervision of site works and operations as may be required; to project manage schemes to ensure their delivery to programme and budget; to assist the Bridges Manager as may be required
ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Compliance with Scotland TranServ’s policy of “Zero Harm”
- Compliance with Scotland TranServ’s policies and procedures
- Implementation of the principles of CDM 2015 into design and construction
- Inspection, assessment and design of bridges and highway structures
- Assure all necessary licences, approvals and permissions are in place to permit construction to proceed
- Preparation of specifications, Bills of Quantity and contract documents
- Delivery of personal and team programmes to time and budget
- Site supervision duties, as may be required
- Topographic surveys, as may be required
- On-call duties including unsociable working hours
- Communication and interaction with the Client, as may be authorised
- Coordination and cooperation with the other functions and departments
- Lead and direct junior members of the team including graduates and technicians, as may be required
- Other duties as may be required
PERSONAL QUALITIES AND EXPERIENCE
The following qualities/experience are essential:
- Recognised degree in Civil or Structural engineering with preference given to MEng
- Approaching Chartered Engineer status
- Experience in the production of technical reports
- Minimum 5 years relevant and related post-graduation experience in the inspection, assessment and design of bridges and highway structures
- Exposure to the production of contract documents for civil engineering schemes
- Working knowledge of DMRB, MCHW, Eurocodes and British Standards
- Working knowledge of your role as Designer under CDM 2015
- Clear communication skills in both oral and written form
- Self-motivated to work within a team and to deliver quality with speed in economic designs
- Possession of clean full driving licence
The following qualities/experience are desirable:
- Experience of bridge related site operations and procedures
- Use of AutoCAD 2013
- Working knowledge of computer design and analysis
- Knowledge of the different uses of construction materials
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office
