Key road in Somerset to close for resurfacing work
A key road in Somerset is set to close later this month so that important resurfacing works can take place.
A section of the A372 along Westonzoyland Road has been showing signs of deterioration with cracks on the carriageway and is therefore undergoing some resurfacing works.
The key route in Bridgwater will be shut from Monday, July 26 until Friday, August 6, between 9.30am and 3.30pm on weekdays only to allow the works to take place.
The resurfacing will take place from the junction with St John Street to five metres southeast from the junction with Clarks Road.
The total stretch being closed throughout the resurfacing works is 415 metres and a 22 mile diversion has been put in place while these works are carried out.
Councillor John Woodman, Somerset County Council’s cabinet member for highways said: “This is part of our ongoing programme to look after our roads in the county and ensure they are maintained to a high standard.
“The closure is necessary to ensure the workforce remain safe so they can complete the work as swiftly as possible. Fortunately, the road will be open at peak hours and at the weekend to enable us to keep disruption to a minimum.
“Access to households and businesses in the area will be maintained and we will work closely with those affected by the works.
“Deliveries and access will be accommodated by liaison with on-site operational staff. Every effort will be made to keep the duration of the works to a minimum. Pedestrian access will be maintained.”
