King Highways | New KIS crash cushion control system

New KIS Advanced Crash Cushion control system to be demonstrated at Traffex 2015
King Highway Products has introduced a new Canbus control system to be known as KIS which is now a standard option on its Safestop 90 Impact Protection Vehicles and was shown for the first time at ‘Seeing is Believing’, back in November.
King along with its Traffic Management rental company Safety Vehicles Hire & Lease Limited, will be offering visitors live demonstrations of the new system at this year’s ‘Traffex’ at The NEC, Birmingham 21st -23rd April.
Known as KIS – the new interface system controls the traffic management functions of the vehicle. The front interface control screen firstly controls all the lighting related to the traffic management systems and also the deployment and stowage of the crash cushion. Working in conjunction with DAF’s own electrical interface, it is expected to significantly reduce life costs and electrical maintenance.
The menu driven screen has many functions grouped together to enable the user to programme specific configurations of vehicle without individually switching each function. This will enable fast present deployments making it easier to train drivers and quicker to set vehicles for operation in what can often be a dangerous environment. The settings can be customised to meet customer’s specific operational requirements and operation can be by either a button press or touch screen.

The front interface incorporates various camera functions including rear view, and switches camera automatically as the crash cushion is deployed to give maximum visibility. Side and deck cameras can also be incorporated in the system.
As original equipment manufacturer the screen has been installed to meet all European laws and complies with the latest requirements for UK Type Approval and MOT requirements.
A fully integrated electrical loom connects the control interface to the rear control cabinet where all electrical components are house in a weatherproof and watertight cabinet eliminating the historical issues with wiring and connector corrosion associated with conventional junction boxes and wiring connections. This is also a great aid to faster and simpler servicing of the vehicle.
The new KIS system can be found on stand H40 and on display in the feature area fitted to an Impact Protection Vehicle in the livery of Safety Vehicle Hire and Lease Limited
