MAC Surfacing | FORS Upgrade as Silver Accreditation is achieved
MAC Surfacing are proud to announce their FORS Silver accreditation- confirmed for 2019.
The Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme (FORS) is a voluntary accreditation scheme that promotes best practice for commercial vehicle operators.
With over 4,250 members, FORS is gaining recognition as the transport industry’s go-to accreditation scheme. FORS encompasses all aspects of safety, efficiency, and environmental protection by encouraging and training fleet operators to measure, monitor and improve performance.
FORS provides accreditation pathways for operators of any type, and for those organisations that award contracts and specify transport requirements.
Silver Fors accreditation confirms employment of good practice and comply with the requirements laid out by the FORS Standard.
By achieving FORS Silver accreditation, the MAC fleet is officially compliant with the CLOCS Standard for Construction Logistics and with TfL’s WRRR (Work Related Road Risk).
Quality and service is at the heart of MAC’s values, and Director Marc Copson commented:
“It isn’t the first time we’ve been accredited with FORS, but our ongoing commitment to quality is absolutely shown in the repeat award. Our machines and vehicles are of the highest quality- and this cements our claim.
“With better quality machinery and a top-quality fleet, our efficiency levels are sky high and we can continue to provide the world class service we’re known for- and that’s the key for us. Service is everything. It’s great to receive the accreditations and hit the standards- but for the purpose of adding value to our service to benefit each and every MAC customer.”
Stuart Currill is MAC Surfacing’s Compliance Manager and played a key part in upgrading the company’s FORS status from Bronze to Silver.
Stuart told us:
“Not all of our competition has FORS accreditation but its a demonstration to our customer that we take things seriously.
“When I joined MAC Surfacing in April 2018, they were already a FORS Bronze accredited company. My immediate goal was to ensure the continuation of this accreditation, however as an established FORS practitioner and a former in-house auditor for Tarmac, I quickly realised the potential for the company to go beyond Bronze and ultimately achieve Gold standard.
“As part of my vision for progression, I set up an intensive driver training program focusing on vulnerable road user safety and later on the newly introduced counter-terrorism requirements. Our FORS fleet management systems were rebuilt from the ground up looking beyond the requirements of Bronze towards Gold standard.
“We currently operate 17 heavy goods vehicles ranging from a 7.5 tonne rigid to a brand new Volvo FH16 tractor unit capable of hauling up to 80 tonne. Making sure these met the requirements of Silver and beyond was part of our ongoing plan & I worked closely with Tony Aspbury, Workshop Manager, and his team to ensure their standards grew in line with the expectation of future accreditations.
“The hard work and enthusiasm to get involved shown by Tony & his team, along with the adoption of the new policies and procedures I had introduced, helped us achieve Bronze renewal in November 2018 & to gain Silver accreditation in January 2019.
“In its 10 years, FORS has become recognised as the leading standard of best practice for road transport organisations & having accreditation shows a commitment to more than the required minimum legal compliance. In today’s world, safety & environmental issues are more important than ever and our progression from Bronze to Silver, with the ultimate aim of Gold by the end of 2020, shows MAC Surfacing Ltd have committed to excellence on all fronts.”
It seems despite being a fantastic achievement, in many ways- FORS Silver is merely the start for MAC.
