MAC Surfacing | When the need for speed is critical
When accidents involving vehicles occur on our UK road network it mostly always results in the need to respond quickly, not only to attend to the injured but to also repair the surface of the road. With a rise in the number of road fatalities and the growing number of vehicles there is an urgent requirement to keep the main roads flowing in order to prevent congestion and potential further accidents.
In 2014, there were 1775 reported fatalities caused by road traffic accidents in the UK, an increase of 4% on 2013 (DfT). When such an incident occurs it is devastating for the family and friends of those involved but it also has an impact on thousands of other road users. Caught up in the ever increasing traffic build up, road users can do nothing but wait until the road is cleared often resulting in additional accidents being caused as a result.
The pressure is on for the responsible Highways Agency to repair the road making it fit for use as quickly as possible which can sometimes involve completely resurfacing it. One recent example was on the A49, one of Shropshire’s busiest roads, which resulted in a fire burning off the surface layer of the road.
Marc Copson, Managing Director of MAC Surfacing Limited explains ‘we were contacted to respond to an emergency call to resurface the A49. Within 2 hours we were on the scene with a complete set of equipment, including a planer, paver, roller and team of labourers to deal with the incident. As we offer a ‘one stop shop’ the highway agency contractor was able to make one phone call to gain a complete solution’.
MAC Surfacing Limited understand that response times are critical in order to keep the country moving. Located in the Black Country the Tipton based company can easily access an array of major motorway networks including the M6, M5, M54 and M42. For more information visit www.macsurfacing.co.uk
