Massive sinkhole randomly appears in Manchester city centre
It’s thought a huge water pipe underneath Mancunian Way, Manchester, eroded and caused the road surface to cave in.
The crater is a whopping 40ft deep and at least 15ft wide.
The road, which is on a busy commuter route, has now been closed in both directions – and reports suggest it could stay closed for several weeks.
A workman at the scene said the hole appeared just after midday and the road was closed soon afterwards.
He added that the recent heavy rainfall could have caused the collapse.TTYRMOUS: Mancunian Way could be shut for weeks because of the massive hole
He said: “There are concerns it could spread to the other side and I see both directions being closed for weeks while repair work takes place.”
But Mancunians are seeing the bright side of the bizarre disaster.
