Meon | Welcome To Project Highways Zero – Driving Towards Net Zero Carbon Highways
Meon are very excited to officially announce their latest initiative…“Project Highways Zero”.
Project Highways Zero started in 2020 to highlight how carbon savings can be made across our highway and transportation infrastructure with respect to line marking and surface repairs. Ensuring safety, durability and sustainability factors influence the choice of line marking material and application methods.
SAFETY… Focused on improved road safety through performance whilst removing high risk operations in support of the industries Zero Carbon goal.
DURABILITY… For every application, we aim to be able to demonstrate ways to reduce Whole-Life costs through improved system performance.
SUSTAINABILITY… Supporting central government Decarbonisation strategy with a goal to reach nett zero by 2050.
Gary Spencer, Meon, had this to say: “At Meon, we’re heavily backing this campaign, due to our passion for delivering environmentally great surfaces. As an innovation leader in the industry, it’s important for us to make information easily accessible regarding the varying environmental benefits of products, application methods and machinery.”
A key milestone in the project is the completion of the first independently verified white paper looking into line marking. This study showed that it’s possible to reduce net carbon consumption by up to 10 times (by over 1500 kilos of carbon per km) through the use of cold line marking materials and electric application equipment.
Added benefits also include improved durability for cost savings and higher retained reflectivity for better safety for road users. If you are interested in finding out more, please join us by following the campaign!
Project Highways Zero are running a series of short online presentations, discussion forums and events to highlight how carbon savings can be made with line marking and surface repairs.
