Miles Macadam | Bridge Over The River Dee
Miles Macadam has been a market leader in the development, manufacture and installation of certified Grouted Macadam systems since the 1970s, including industry renowned products Hardipave™ and Milepave™.
As well as its core business the company’s contracting arm delivers a wide range of surfacing and construction projects. It has recently completed a ‘flags to flexi’ footpath replacement scheme to the historic Grosvenor Bridge in Chester. The bridge is a main route into the city centre and holds the reputation as the longest single-span arch bridge in the world at the time of construction in 1832. It also overlooks the city’s famous racecourse, the Roodee – the oldest racecourse in existence in England.
The footpath was paved with pre-cast concrete flags, many of which were broken and displaced. To minimise disruption, Miles Macadam resurfaced the bridge’s footpaths using an innovative high performance single pass 50mm surface course. This helped Miles Macadam cut a week off the client’s proposed completion date. Works were completed at night during a two week period, with a continuous managed traffic flow to minimise disruption to city centre traffic.
Miles Macadam believe their willingness to develop, adopt and recommend new products and materials will continue to achieve efficiency savings for their clients.
Benn Teasdale, Miles Macadam:
“We’re always looking to improve our service in order to reduce work duration times. Minimising disruption is of paramount importance. When we can showcase a high profile scheme like this, we clearly demonstrate our operational excellence and quality of work”
