Motorists complain £900k signs ‘only ever say how long it takes to get to the M6
Highways England installed two motorway-style electronic signs in March 2015 on the A590 at a total cost of £897,365.
At the time many complained of the high cost of the signs which have since led to repeated complaints about the lack of useful information displayed.
Some of the messages are listed below:-
Regular users of the A590 have said they have rarely seen anything other than “To M6 X minutes” or “To Barrow X minutes” on the signs and claim they have been a waste of money.
Planned road closures, including the ongoing A592 diversion at the Newby Bridge roundabout, cannot be posted on the signs.
They can only used to give information about incidents, congestion or live journey times along the strategic road network.
