MVIS | Greener Highways Membership is latest in long line of ‘go greener’ moves
MVIS has been an environmentally focused company for a decade. Since inception, the company has always had an eye on processes, products and operations that preserve the environment and avoid as much damage as possible.
MVIS has a long-standing commitment to sustainability and is constantly searching for ways to reduce its environmental footprint. MVIS’s products are designed to be energy efficient, and the company encourages its employees to operate with sustainability in mind. MVIS is proud to be an environmentally responsible company and continues to work hard to protect the environment.
As the latest in a long line of environmentally focused manoeuvres, MVIS has become a founder member of recently formed membership body, Greener Highways.
Greener Highways aims to aid with the education and implementation of sustainable initiatives, products, services and operations across the highways sector. In order to achieve this, Greener Highways showcases the contributions of its members towards a cleaner, greener future.
Greener Highways aims to tackle the climate emergency together by looking at areas such as energy, transport, wildlife and waste, with further aim to build best practice relationships between businesses to encourage faster changes towards long-term sustainability.
With aligning goals and outlook, MVIS didn’t hesitate to join the organisation, opting into best practice sharing, open communication, community initiatives and charitable contribution via Greener Highways.
ISO and Training
Membership to Greener Highways supports the commitments spelled out in MVIS’ Corporate Social Responsibility policy which goes above and beyond what is expected by its ISO in environmental management (14001:2015).
MVIS also holds Gold status in the Supply Chain Sustainability School, a platform that offers businesses extensive training into topics such as sustainability, offsite safety, procurement and management relevant to the business environment.
With a focus on CPD through training workshops, networking events and e-learning modules, achieving Gold status is done through completing or using a number of these tools across the company to ensure that the skills taught within the programmes are taken on by companies as well as filtered throughout the business.
In preparation for Highways UK 2021, MVIS developed a new way to inform customers about products and solutions. Breaking away from the conventional presentation folder and spec sheets, custom QR codes were created.
Using QR codes, paper, ink and any potential waste involved in the production and distribution of information packs is eradicated.
The Carbon Club is an initiative established by Forest Carbon that allows businesses the opportunity to address their carbon footprint.
Becoming a member and purchasing ‘carbon credits’ allows Forest Carbon to plant trees and create new woodlands in the UK, which will sequester greenhouse gases from the atmosphere in the years to come.
Going above and beyond, MVIS has purchased extra credits – meaning that more trees are planted as a result of the company’s commitment.
Forest Carbon has planted over 10 million new trees in 200+ new woodlands since 2006 with their partners, removing over 2 million tonnes of carbon from the atmosphere.
Insect hotels, hedgehog homes, wildflowers and plants, movement sensors and timers in lights and hand dryers are all included in the environmentally conscious revamp of MVIS HQ over the years.
The ‘go greener’ message is one that is lived daily and entrenched in the company’s offices, with even the smallest adjustments being made to make a difference in the long run.
MVIS Group Commercial and Operations Director Anne Ashman told us:
“Greener Highways was something that we were determined to get behind from day 1. The ambition of accelerating the decarbonisation of the sector is something we could not be more behind, and so membership as a founder organisation was the next logical step for MVIS as we continue to champion environmental health and sustainability across the highways sector.
“Pioneering as part of new organisations is important to us as we look to create effects that reach further and wider than ‘just’ our own business.
“From the accreditations we have gained, to office adaptations, to digital advancements to reduce our impact, we have a long history of environmentally focused thinking. The importance of such thinking is ever increasing, and as a business we will continue in our strive towards a greener future across our sector.”
