National Highways to showcase innovation, Skills and Climate Resilience at LCRIG Innovation & Learning Festival 2026

National Highways is set to play a prominent role at the LCRIG Innovation & Learning Festival 2026, reinforcing its focus on innovation, climate resilience and workforce development across the UK’s strategic road network.

The event, taking place at NAEC Stoneleigh in Warwickshire on 24–25 June, will bring together highways professionals, local authorities, suppliers and technology innovators to explore emerging solutions shaping the future of transport infrastructure.

National Highways will have a dedicated presence in the indoor exhibition area, where teams will be engaging with industry partners and showcasing a range of initiatives aimed at improving network performance, safety and long-term resilience. The organisation will also share insights into current programmes and collaborate with stakeholders on approaches to innovation and delivery across the sector.

As part of the festival’s CPD-certified learning programme, National Highways representatives will deliver two sessions in the Technical Learning Theatre on 24 June. The first session will examine how DARe’s Transport Performance & Risk Analysis Framework can be used to strengthen climate resilience across highways assets, supporting more informed decision-making for future transport networks.

The second session will focus on the Roads Academy, providing an overview of its role in developing skills, improving knowledge sharing and supporting professional development across the highways sector. The short presentation will highlight ongoing efforts to build capability and attract talent into the industry at a time of increasing demand for specialist skills in infrastructure delivery and asset management.

National Highways’ participation reflects a broader sector-wide emphasis on resilience, particularly as climate change, extreme weather events and ageing infrastructure place additional pressure on the road network. Enhancing the ability of transport systems to adapt to these challenges is increasingly seen as a core priority for long-term network management.

Alongside its technical contributions at the festival, National Highways is also demonstrating its commitment to workforce development through its sponsorship of the Department for Transport Special Recognition Excellence in Apprenticeship Delivery – Employer Award 2026.

The award recognises organisations that have shown outstanding commitment to apprenticeship delivery and the development of future talent within the highways and transport sector. It highlights the importance of investing in structured training pathways to support skills growth, innovation and long-term industry resilience.

National Highways has emphasised that apprenticeships play a critical role in strengthening the sector’s capability base, supporting both operational delivery and the wider transformation of the UK’s road infrastructure.
