Nu-phalt | Green light for thermal repair as a collaborative partner of project amber
Road repair specialist Nuphalt has been showcasing thermal road repair as part of Project Amber.
What is Project Amber?
LCRIG Project Amber supports the DfT by implementing an industry wide collaboration bringing together innovative SMEs to deliver good practice and value by highlighting viable, sustainable solutions within the highway community.
Project Amber brought 15 private contracting organisations together, and utilising GAIST technologies programmed various works across Blackpool. The works were delivered during peak visitor times collaboratively to ensure road space was fully utilised and disruptions kept to a minimum.

Nuphalt Thermal Road Repairs were chosen to deliver HAPAS approved permanent repairs to two areas of Blackpool as over 1100 defects were removed from the Network over the project covering potholes, failed utility reinstatements and iron work repairs.
Nuphalt’s reporting updates kept the client aware of progress throughout, and also served to highlight further road condition details on a daily basis. The thermal system provides fully guaranteed repairs using the only thermal system that has HAPAS approval and is recommended within MCHW Series 900.
The average cost across the entire thermal repair programme was £35.40 per repair – far cheaper than National Repair Average of £65.10 according to the Alarm Survey 2019.
Additionally, all materials excavated from local roads are fully recycled and reused, so the environmental aspect of thermal repair adds further value to the modest cost.
