One of Birmingham’s busiest commuter roads to close for essential repairs
Motorists using one of Birmingham’s busiest roads could face long delays when it closes for essential repairs.
A stretch of the A457 Dudley Road is shutting completely for at least one day later this month.
The section of the road which runs outside City Hospital and goes through Winson Green and Cape Hill is closing on Sunday February 24.
It is so Severn Trent can carry out essential maintenance.
A spokesman for the water company said: “We’re planning to carry out essential maintenance work on Dudley Road.
“To keep our teams and road users safe, we’ll be closing a section of the road as we work.
“We’re really sorry for any inconvenience this may cause, but we’ve planned this work to take place on a Sunday to help reduce any disruption, and will aim to have all work complete on the same day.”
However, signs which have been put up on routes around Dudley Road warn motorists that the road will be closed for three days.
The Severn Trent spokesman said: “The signs are there just in case anything was to run over or if we come into any problems, this way people are aware that the road may be closed.”
The work involves water pipes which are under the carriageway.
Local people have been reassured that water supplies won’t be affected.
The road is due to close at 9.30am on Sunday February 24.
