Paragon TM | Paragon continues to invest in the wellbeing of their staff
At Paragon TM the company knows it’s only as good as its teams out on the road.
Its important all equipment looks the part; clean cones, signs in good condition, shiny orange barriers and vans with a great company logo, but the company knows that equipment won’t get there without its staff and as a result, the business places prime emphasis on looking after its employees better than anything else.
As a dynamic forward-thinking company, Paragon has taken several major steps recently towards recruiting, retaining and promoting talent from within.
Appoint Rebecca Warne Assos CIPD as the new HR Manager.
Rebecca has joined the team tasked with evolving the culture within the business, her main targets are:
- To build the company up to become an employer of choice by;
- Promoting health and wellbeing
- Implementing employee benefits
- Promoting employee engagement
- Provide structure within the departments
- Provide support to all employees and promote talent from within
- To review and implement company policies and procedures, making company processes more streamlined
- Act as a support for Senior Management
Provide tablets and custom-built app for site teams, initially through a small number of lead operatives to ask for feedback on how the system can be made better for use, by the people that will be using it.
Quarterly newsletters to communicate news throughout the business. The newsletter also has a competition to encourage participation.
This is part of the HR strategy to promote employee engagement as it provides employees with information on business performance, changes within the business, HR updates such as new employees joining the ‘You Said, We Did’ following the ‘Listening Meetings’.
The newsletter also has a ‘Your Chance to Win’, which is a wordsearch or puzzle that the employee completes and sends to the HR Manager. The winner is picked at random and wins the assigned prize for that particular quarter. The prize can be anything from a £30 gift voucher up to one day’s holiday added to their annual leave that year.
Listening meetings started to discuss business updates and for staff to bring any issues or concerns to the table. An open-door policy is implemented around the office so that all employees know Paragon TM is there for them if they need to discuss anything – whether work related or something more personal. Rebecca is also a registered mental first aider and is actively encouraging this through the business.
The projects team has been restructured, promoting employees from within to now provide the business with additional Senior Project Coordinators with more responsibility. This now allows Paragon TM to employ new apprentices from outside the business.
Engage with Perkbox to provide incentives for staff.
Perkbox provides retail discounts, weekly freebies, and most importantly access to 24/7 counselling and wellness sessions. These include yoga, exercise and workout advice, hypnosis and meditation, plus several more.
The app is designed to promote wellbeing and engage with staff. Paragon TM will be rewarding employees for going above and beyond as well by implementing Employee of the Month/Year. It is also implementing Length of Service awards.
Friday team lunch: Bi-weekly the office team down tools for a Friday lunch.
All staff meet in Paragon’s training room to have an open discussion during a meal. This allows conversation between departments and promotes a healthier and happier workforce.
So far the business has found the integration and participation from all staff to be very positive and Paragon intends to carry on with all steps and look to also implement more to help nurture the growth of staff as the company grows.
New HR Manager Rebecca Warne told us:
“I have worked within HR for approximately 5 years, and I am delighted and excited to be a part of Paragon Traffic Management Ltd.
“Since I started with the company, the business has been open and welcoming to employee incentives and benefits such as Length of Service Awards and Perkbox, and to the promotion of Mental Health Awareness.
“The Senior Management Team have a close bond that allows us to work together to promote health & wellbeing and employee engagement, which are key to having a healthier and happier workforce and bringing the company up to an ‘Employer of Choice’.”
Tim Wrigglesworth, BDM for Paragon TM also commented:
“I unfortunately have had a lot of experience with mental health issues both personally and with family members, and to be a part of a company who actively want to look after all of their staff with both their physical and mental wellbeing is very enlightening and makes me proud to be a part of it.
“In the past, for me personally it’s not been a topic employers have done enough about, but with investment, time and forward thinking from Paragon Traffic Management I’m sure we can help our staff when they need it and we can support them through tough times.”
