With over 40 years combined experience in temporary traffic management, Matthew Turner and Robert Cummings have joined the Premier Traffic Management team to support the transformation of the business from a well-known and trusted regional supplier to a national traffic management partner of choice.
Having previously led the traffic management business of Colas Ltd for a number of years, in addition to roles at HW Martin, Matthew and Robert bring a wealth of diverse experience to Premier Traffic Management including Highways England Major Projects and Asset Delivery works via Construction Works Frameworks.
Premier Traffic Management Director, David Moist, said:
“Matthew and Robert have supported us to develop a business strategy which will underpin the way we operate in the next 3-5 years. They recognise the strong reputation we have built with our clients in both the North East and North West and they are keen to extend this local partnership approach to other key clients across the country and in other key focus areas such as high-speed working. Their knowledge and experience of working with organisations such as Highways England will enable us to align Premier to their needs and deliver best value.”
The new Director duo are driving this change through a business strategy named SCRIPT, which represents the six core values of Premier Traffic Management:
- Safe – ‘Your partner in safety’
- Consistent – ‘Delivering against our promises, every time’
- Responsive – ‘Reacting to an ever-evolving environment with pace and energy’
- Inclusive – ‘Be part of our fun and exciting business. Our People – Our Partners – Our Future’
- Passionate – ‘Striving for excellence and sharing success with our partners’
- Trustworthy – ‘Delivering with open, honest, and ethical behaviours
Commenting on the strategy, Premier Traffic Management Director, Matthew Turner, stated:
“With SCRIPT, we wanted to create a compelling story for our people and our partners to make Premier both an exciting place to work and a partner of choice for clients. SCRIPT sets out our key focus areas and communicates our key strategies which together form our business plan. We recognise the great work which has been done to get the Premier name to this point and we’re excited to write the next chapter of this journey with our SCRIPT.”
As part of SCRIPT, Premier Traffic Management have driven transformational change to deliver against ambitious targets including:
Digital Transformation
Premier Traffic Management have introduced a fully paperless contract management system, P-Flow, to manage its entire traffic management operations with operatives managing works using a mobile app. This has delivered time and cost efficiencies, whilst delivering environmental benefits through significant paper reduction within the business. Through the client portal of P-Flow, Premier’s clients can view their operations supporting a partnership approach through transparency.
Further, Premier Traffic Management have partnered with Floh Tech, a traffic data specialist, to lead on a new way of developing and delivering temporary traffic management by understanding traffic data and making informed decisions based upon this data. Further, real-time data management supports their teams to efficiently maintain sites, react to congestion and incidents quickly, and providing our customers with accurate and reliable journey times.
Premier Director, Robert Cummings, commented:
“The availability of digital solutions within the industry is growing and we want to remain at the forefront of the industry by continuously challenging the way we operate our business. We view digital transformation as key to the sustainability of our organisation and we have transferred the management of Premier from a paper based environment to a fully digital contract management solution to drive efficiency and support our digital ambitions.”
Fleet Investment
Significant fleet investment has supported further rollout of EUROVI standards with newly rebranded livery to demonstrate the fresh identity of Premier Traffic Management to its clients, customers and partners. This has included a range of investments including 18t Impact Protection Vehicles, 3.5t temporary traffic management pickups, and innovative fleet improvements such as Premier Traffic Management fully electric TSCO vehicles.
With electric vehicle charging points installed at Premier depots, fully electric vehicles have supported the company to transform their sustainability objectives and further electric vehicle rollouts have the organisation targeting further carbon efficiencies.
Premier Director, Matthew Turner, commented:
“Our electric vehicle technology has demonstrated our environmental commitments to our people and our partners to support our sustainability strategy and deliver better air quality in our local areas. We’re excited to see how our electric vehicle roll out progresses and we are committed to reducing our carbon emissions.”
Diversification
Adding to the portfolio of services offered through Premier Traffic Management has also been a key focus area of the organisation with the business extending into other areas such as vehicle restraint systems, and delivering contracts in partnership with sister company, Premier Road Markings, to deliver best value for clients through the deployment of multi-skilled resources.
Premier Traffic Management have recently employed Alan Gray to the business as Fencing Operations Manager. An industry expert with over 30 years’ experience, Alan will be managing the growth, development, and delivery of a newly formed safety fencing workstream across the UK.
Premier Director, Robert Cummings said:
“Alan brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the Premier team and is key to the success of our new and exciting VRS offering. We are thrilled to add permanent safety fencing to our ever-growing portfolio of services and we view this as a natural diversification from our core offering of temporary traffic management.”
With experience of delivering safety fencing schemes across the UK, Alan has worked with clients such as Highways England to lead the delivery of major projects such as A1 Blaydon Bridge Parapet Replacement and long-term contracts including Construction Works Framework.
In joining Premier, Alan commented:
“Premier is at a very exciting stage of its transformation and I am delighted to be part of the journey. We have clear plans in place to support the delivery of safety fencing requirements across the UK and I believe we have a market opportunity to deliver real value for our clients by combining the expertise of the Premier team.”
