R&C | Meet the Team: Our Contracts Manager Peter Gutteridge

Peter Gutteridge has been with R&C Williams for nearly 5 years and is a contracts management veteran. Peter has had the opportunity to work on hundreds of contracts over the years. In addition to being an expert negotiator, Peter also provides insightful guidance on best practices when it comes to his projects. During our conversation, he shared some invaluable insights about staying organized, remaining patient during negotiations, and finding creative solutions in difficult contracts. We are delighted that we were able to speak with such a knowledgeable Contracts Manager as Peter Gutteridge!
We asked Peter some questions, here is a little more about him
Describe your job in three words?
PG: “Challenging, rewarding, varied.”
HI: What do you do at R&C Willams?
PG: “I am employed as a contracts manager, the scope of work at R & C is very varied, we are involved in contracts from tender stage through to final account, estimating the initial enquiry through to managing the delivery of a quality scheme, safely, within budget and to the satisfaction of the client.”
HI: What’s the coolest thing you’re working on right now?
PG: “I am working on scheme to replace three overhead gantries on the Gravelly Hill Interchange, this involves a number of specialist activities which all need co- ordinating, we have been involved with this project for over twelve months in the pre-construction stage, and are now keen to get on site deliver the scheme.”
HI: What are the values that drive you?
PG: “I pride myself in the attention to detail, getting things right and giving 100% effort.”
HI: Best thing about being part of the R&C Team?
PG: “Working at R & C you really are part of a team, everybody works together for the company and the benefits are shared.”
HI: Worst thing about beingpart of the R&C Team?
PG: “I can’t really think of one, maybe too many Villa fans!!”
HI: What do you enjoy doing when you are not working?
PG: “Playing golf, enjoying time with the family, walking the dog and I like to dabble with a bit of cooking.”
HI: Who inspires you? and why
PG: “Richard Branson – a true entrepreneur who got things right and lives life to the full.”
HI: Who would you most like to swap places with for the day?
PG: “Thomas Telford it must have been amazing to have had such an influence on the infrastructure of this country.”
HI: What did you want to grow up to be when you were a kid?
PG: “I always wanted to be an Architect when I was young ”
HI: Last book you read?
PG: “I’m not a great reader, I did read the David Walliams series of children’s books starting with Gangster Granny to my youngest son who is now 21!”
HI: Website you visit the most?
PG: “I guess that would be sky sports”
HI: Tell us something we don’t know?
PG: “I can cook a mean paella”
HI: What is something [people in your industry/niche] have to deal with that you want to fix?
PG: “ Understanding that best value does not always mean cheapest, there is a cost to working safely and producing good quality which should not be overlooked. Health and safety has got to take priority.”
