Ringway | Prestigious CIHT Prize Awarded to Ringway Winter Driver Training
Ringway’s bespoke Winter Driving Training course has taken one of the top prizes at the prestigious CIHT Awards, after it was named winner of the Skills & Training Award.
The Award judges recognised that the training course, which replicates real driving conditions for our front-line winter maintenance drivers, utilising a large skid pan which can accommodate winter spreaders along with specialist skilled trainers, has set a new competency benchmark within the sector.
Since the pilot course was held in 2017, 538 drivers have now taken part in the training with further continued training planned in 2019 towards all Ringway front line winter maintenance drivers achieving the required level.
Andrew Hugill, CIHT Director of Policy & Technical Affairs, said:
“The winter maintenance driver training course showed great initiative and originality by going beyond industry standards to produce better outcomes both for Ringway and those who are potentially at risk of being a victim of road accidents in winter driving conditions. This scheme has the potential to be implemented in other companies that operate a winter maintenance fleet.”
Dave Campbell, Group Health, Safety & Environment Director, said:
“Winning these awards is a fantastic achievement for our business. It shows external recognition for all the hard work that is put in across the company to improve safety standards and make our employees more health aware.”
More than 400 guests attended the 14th Annual CIHT Awards Dinner, which were held at the De Vere Grand Connaught Rooms, London on Thursday 13th June to celebrate best practice, professionalism and excellence across the industry.
