Ringway | Ringway Jacobs on a winning streak
Ringway Jacobs’ work has won two prestigious industry awards on two successive evenings.
Essex Highways is part of The Safer Essex Roads Partnership, which won the ‘Road Safety, Traffic Management & Enforcement’ category at the National Transport Awards 2018 for their ‘Extra Eyes’ campaign. The campaign encourages road users to submit footage showing dangerous road user behaviour, in a bid to reduce crashes and save lives on roads across Essex, Southend-on-Sea and Thurrock. Having reviewed the footage, where appropriate, Essex Police contact the person caught on camera and explain the potential consequences of their actions. Alternatively, the offender may be offered a driver retraining course, or in serious cases face prosecution with the footage used as evidence. Between January and July 2018, Essex Police received nearly 1,500 Extra Eyes submissions.
The previous evening, Ringway Jacobs won the Small Project of the Year Award at the British Construction Industry Awards, for their key role in the HAR2 Kingsmoor Flood Alleviation Scheme, in Essex. Ringway Jacobs took the Principal Design and Contractor roles and, working with the Environment Agency, Harlow District Council, Hawthorn Heavy Horses, Natural England, Thames Water and Topbond, delivered a unique way to reduce the risk of surface water flooding using ‘leaky dams’. To minimise the impact on the trees and local wildlife in the area and to avoid the use of heavy machinery, dams were built by hand from logs sourced directly from the woodland and moved into position using heavy horses. The Judges commented that the scheme was “A really great use of local landscape, volunteer and sustainable labour and thinking differently.”
Of both the awards, Mike O’Neill, Managing Director of Ringway Jacobs said, “This has been an amazing week for Ringway Jacobs and we are very proud to have won these awards. Both projects have highlighted our diverse skills and ability to work collaboratively with our partners to deliver an exceptional end result for our clients and the local community.”
