Roadtechs | VIDEO – Repair rather than replace
M11 Inlaid Crack Repair Scheme
Over the past few months specialist surface treatments contractor Roadtechs, have been busy delivering vital repairs on the M11 motorway.
The scheme, worth in excess of £1m, has provided inlaid crack repair solutions to the asphalt surfacing lane joints.
Works commenced in late December 2015 and were completed in early March 2016, following an intense period of Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) between several specialists contractors, all coordinated through ASC provider Amey.
“The crack repair work offers both Environmental and safety benefits and being undertaken at night utilising lane closures, it also ensures minimal disruption to the travelling public…”
Scott Millar, Amey Area 6 & 8

On completion of the project Roadtechs have treated 44km of carriageway, at times reaching impressive outputs of up to 1,300 lm in a single night shift. As with the vast array of Roadtech’s repair solutions, the Roadflex crack repair treatment provides excellent value for money, when compared to alternative traditional methods of dealing with this problem, which is very common across the UK highways network.
Roadtechs have a long and successful history in all aspects of highway maintenance but are very experienced in the repair of cracked and jointed pavements. The M11 solution, with nominal repair dimensions of 300mm wide x up to 40mm deep, required the installation crew(s) to supply, prepare and apply up to 30 tonnes per night, of their proprietary Roadflex specialist joint treatment system.
Roadtechs proposed the use of their Roadflex H grade, which is a BBA Hapas approved system for repairing cracks and joints in both asphalt and concrete pavements.
Ranjit Sandhu Regional Operations Manager Roadtechs commented:
“Treating the areas of weakness, typically the longitudinal surfacing joint, we can prolong the life of the existing pavement”.
“Roadtechs already has an industry wide reputation for project delivery and being able to maximise outputs and performance through effective and efficient use of resources. These M11 works however take that reputation to a whole new level, as we were required to resource, coordinate and deploy over 20 specialist vehicles and plant on each night shift, I don’t know anyone else who could do this in the market.
“The outputs achieved demonstrate our belief, that Roadtechs are the number one specialist crack and joint repair contractor in the UK.
The scheme has taken extensive planning and wasn’t short of its challenges on site, especially working at this time of year, in restrictive night time working windows.
It goes without saying that the success of the project, is down to the collaborative approach of all those involved in the works.”
