Virtus Traffic Management Solutions assist WJ Roadmarkings Ltd in the successful delivery of the most prolific road markings contract in the UK.

I hired the services of Virtus Traffic Management Solutions to undertake the contract planning and operational delivery of the Games Lanes. Their technical abilities and operational commitment surpassed all expectations and they played a crucial part in the successful delivery of the games lanes for W J Roadmarkings. Virtus were first approached by W J Roadmarkings in November 2011 and were initially engaged to review and carry out a materials take off from over 1600 detailed road marking drawings. Little did we know that this was just the beginning of a long and very challenging journey that would lead to Virtus spending the next 9 months working full time Project Managing the Olympic Route Network contract on behalf of WJ Roadmarkings.

In January 2012 we made the decision to commit all of our time to the project in order for us to effectively plan and programme the installation of the infamous Games Lanes.

Over the coming months we integrated into Transport For London alongside their five delivery partners RingwayJacobs Amey JB Riney FM Conway & Enterprisemouchel to assist their management and planning teams in programming the alterations to over 128km of existing road markings which was predominantly made up of 3Ms Stamark Temporary Tape including over 8000 letters/arrows and around 530 carriageway symbols.

Part of our remit was to mobilise a fully operational depot in Dagenham. This enabled road marking crews from the WJ Linkline Groups to relocate and work from a central operating base for the duration of the scheme.

Working within the depot we then commenced with the preparation of inductions for over 50 road marking crews & produced over 400 work packs and stock requisitions to enable the crews to install and commission the Olympic Route Network over a twenty five night period completing the works two nights prior to the opening date of the lanes.

Due to the success of the installation we were requested to remain on the project and undertake the planning and management of the partial removal and reinstallation of the lanes for the Paralympics and also the final removal/demobilisation which were equally as challenging as the install but with a more condensed timescale for both the planning and operational delivery.

The Project saw unprecedented numbers Roadmarkings and Temporary T.M crews out across the network each night which required a military style approach in order to successfully co-ordinate and deliver the works.

We forged many healthy and hopefully long lasting relationships along the way and as a company Virtus are very proud to have played a key role in the successful delivery of such a high profile and politically sensitive project that was viewed by millions of people worldwide.
