5 Things You May or May Not Know About TLS

1.
TLS has over 60 years combined management experience in the handling of National Contracts within the highways industry.
18 of them are headed by Steve Bennett who has been a part of the Traffic Management Industry since 1998. Prior to this he was a manager at a Utility company overseeing the design and planning of traffic management for major gas schemes.
Mr Bennett said: “The management has had involvement on some of the largest highway construction schemes in the UK. From project management to contract supervisors. The industry knowledge gives a lot of our clients the comfort that we are able to source the correct type of men for the contracts they have. It also allows the lines of communication between the operatives and clients to be as clear as possible when completing the booking. This aids in the reliability and efficiency of the service we provide.”
2.
TLS is proud to boast the supply of one of the highest concentration of IPV drivers in the UK.
As part of the preparation to the Olympics in 2012 they helped 4 clients that worked alongside TFL to source 32 drivers in any one 24hr period. This was in the months leading up to the major event and while the event was live they had an integral role as part of the incident support service to keep the carriageways clear at peak times.
Recently they have been involved with supplying over 70 qualified traffic operatives to various clients that handled the Tour De France stages through the UK. The involvement in both major events shows that they have the ability to cope with high demand schemes as well as continuing to supply the core day to day operatives that makes them as successful as they are today.
3.
To help combat the increasing problem of unskilled labour in the industry TLS have invested in their own Lantra and City & Guilds training Centre.
They now have the capability to not only train their own labour but develop them into experienced operatives that the industry can trust.
Although the centre is in its infancy it has employed 2 full time trainer/Assessors and 5 free-lance staff. This will help TLS with their commitment to give all their contracting partners the opportunity to develop themselves and go on to secure full-time contracts with the clients they are working with. This is a unique service TLS offers to their contractors when clients ask for long term commitments. They encourage the partnering philosophy to create trust and loyalty in a very volatile environment.
The centre is able to cope with all aspects of highway training including winter maintenance and barrier maintenance. This helps TLS secure ongoing relationships with the Highways Agency consultants that require ongoing managed support throughout the year.
4.
TLS have developed a database of over 1200 trained and experienced Traffic operatives.
They range from traffic safety and control officers to the newly appointed 1 day health and safety operatives. This database is held on a bespoke software developed by the management team at TLS. The software is named FASTLANE and is focused around the efficiency of the contractors booking the hours and the client authorising them. FASTLANE has helped TLS increase their core partners on the UK road network to a 300 strong team. It has made the efficiency of the bookings through to the raising of the invoice is second to none. All their clients that use the software to the best of its ability has found it to be beneficial to their operation.
5.
TLS are committed to gaining the ISO standards that will increase quality and safety.
This strategic move has been in the making for over a year due to the incorporation of 3 standards. ISO 9001 ISO 14001 and ISO 18001. It is clear in the ever increasing health and safety commitments the industry demand that just the IOS quality standard is enough to get by but the demand for a high class managed support service needs to be dedicated and committed to a higher level. TLS are now able to promote a managed support service to all their clients to enhance their operations. ISO 9001 gives the client confidence that they will commit to the highest quality service to gain ongoing relationships. The integration of ISO 14001 means they can show a commitment to helping the battle to improve the environment and with ISO 18001 they will hold a dedicated health and safety manual that will prove they are at the highest level in the industry.
