Traffic Safety Officer Services | Developing a workforce for the future
Business and Industry Today is extremely proud to present Traffic Safety Officer Services (TSO Services) as its selected Traffic Management Operative Provider of the Year.
With four years of continuous growth, consistent development of services and a dedication to providing clients with the most up to date technology accompanied by a superior level of customer service- it is no wonder TSO Services has been selected for such a prestigious award.
“The whole of the office was thrilled to receive this award – and there was a real sense of pride and achievement,” commented Company Director, Tony Pope. “This has been a big team effort over the past four years and to receive such recognition of all the hard work that has been put in by everyone is fantastic.”
Established in March 2012 the renowned company operates to ensure effective labour is supplied to the industry, overseeing the fluctuations of major traffic management companies on a national basis. Since its inception, TSO’s client base has grown due to a foundation of reliable service and highly experienced operatives of all grades. Now, just 4 years on, they are considered to be one of the most recognised traffic management recruitment companies in the industry.
In the last 12 months alone, TSO has enhanced their innovative TOAST system, developed their training centre and opened a new office in Wakefield.
“The past year has been extremely busy for us,” explained Tony. “We have developed the TOAST system to include new features based on the feedback of our clients as well as improving our training centre and opening a new office to cope with the demand for training in the industry.
“After the predicted slow start to the financial year, the company has continued to grow. The slow start to the year has enabled us to use the time to develop our workforce skill levels to better serve our clients. This has come to fruition towards the end of the year allowing us to bring new blood into the industry.”

TSO Services has the proficiency to provide operatives across the UK (from Southampton to Newcastle), all of whom are highly experienced in their grades, whether Traffic Safety and Control Officers or LANTRA qualified one-day operatives. It’s widely trusted reputation has helped the firm to build up an ever-growing customer base comprising some of the biggest names in the traffic management sector (such as Colas, Chevron, Tarmac, Carillion, Amberon and Premier).
For the past two years, the team have been developing TOAST (Traffic Operative and Shift Tracking), an advanced piece of software acting as a super-effective online database system managing bookings and holding qualifications. The bespoke technology incorporates a live feed to all clients, augments the organisation of administration paperwork and streamlines the overall process by keeping everything in one convenient place.
Tracking shifts are made possible with TOAST, logging individual hours and managing time at a live speed in a clear and readable format. Its new “Flag” feature ensures that any subcontractors not meeting the expected standards (poor attendance, low performance, no valid drug and alcohol pass certificates being the main indicators) are removed from the search engines, which will, in turn, leave space only for the most reliable and credible candidates. In addition, the corresponding app allows operatives to monitor the flow of data more easily (and in seconds rather than hours).
The recently launched training centre has been a major focus of TSO Services. Opening the new office and taking on a new training manager means they can now provide services in each one of their offices. TSO are currently working on the online booking system for the training centre to allow clients better, instant access to courses, which will make the process much more streamlined and user-friendly, including group bookings. A new training assessor has also been employed to ensure that they set and meet the highest of standards and have this work externally verified as set out with Lantra.
“We are continually enhancing the TOAST system to support more areas of our operations,” continued Tony. “We have a number of new releases planned for the TOAST System through 2016/17 currently under development. With the training centre, we plan to grow the skill level of the operatives on our books, thus improving the overall standard in the industry, which will be to everyone’s advantage. We are also undergoing an overhaul of the website to be released in the summer incorporating the new online booking system.
“Plans are also in place to bring in an operational manager in the near future to support the line managers with the development of the business and ensure the there is good communication between the operational teams.”
Having experienced a superb year, TSO remains extremely optimistic about what the future holds.
“The general slowdown of the economy has meant a number of major infrastructure projects have not come on-line as planned. There are now signs that these funds will be released, so we are expecting a significant increase in demand in the near future.
“We have used this time to explore new avenues – still related to our core business, of course. I believe the company is well-positioned for the coming year to capitalise on these new opportunities being discussed with a number of clients. We are confident about the planned growth of the business and looking forward to the future.”
