VACANCY | DDC | Survey Technician Apprenticeship – Level 3

Joining DDC Engineering Solutions as a Civil Engineering Surveying Assistant Apprenticeship will give you an opportunity to learn how to capture, process, manage, use and quality assure data.
What you’ll be doing
A Civil Engineering Surveying Technician Apprenticeship captures and surveys the drainage via GPS equipment and quickview camera’s. The data you capture helps form reports of the drainage on highways. Typically, the information you provide could influence the construction of roads, buildings and much more.
Your learning will be aligned with our business needs through the support of your industrial and academic mentors. You will also get opportunities to develop industry-relevant skills.
As part of our Apprentice Program you will be working out on the highways, surveying the drainage with our site engineers, you will also have the opportunity to work in the office to process your survey data and work along side the office engineers. This means you will learn how to liaise between the engineers, management and operatives in a Highways environment.
In addition to develop your technical knowledge, you will learn about the latest trends in the application of digital technologies in Civil and Geospatial Survey.
During the apprenticeship you will develop skills in the following:
- Capture geospatial information
- Take, record and document appropriate geospatial measurements to the required specification
- Work with other professionals, clients, customers and others to obtain and provide geospatial information
- Perform calculations and use geospatial data
- Principles of highway asset management
- Understanding of our technology and processes for surveying
- Understanding safe working practices, Health and Safety and CDM regulations within the work environment
- Using CAD design tools
- Using specific Information Technology solutions used within the contract
- Commercial awareness
Professional Registration/Membership
The apprenticeship will provide the necessary knowledge, skills and behaviours to apply to become an Associate member:
- Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS)
- Technical Member of the Chartered Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors (ICES)
What will you need
You will be a natural problem solver with a ‘can do’ attitude, having always been curious about how things work and probing to see if things could be done better. You will enjoy working with others in a team, seeking to discover new things alongside pushing yourself to achieve high quality work.
The job role may vary from days and nights and you may have to work away from home during the week, you need to be prepared for this and be willing to step outside your comfort zone. You will work all over part of England and Wales.
Commitment to studying towards a BTEC National Diploma qualification.
5 GCSEs at Grade 4 (C) or higher including Maths and English or a Level 2 apprenticeship in a relevant discipline – please ensure you detail your grades on your CV.
A full clean driving licence.
You must have a CSCS card!
