VIDEO | See the Pavement that Glows in the Dark
Here at HighwaysIndustry.Com we LOVE glow in the dark products whether it’s the glowing snowflakes of Dutch highways or this new surfacing material that looks like an Avatar night sky.
The new glow stuff is called Starpath and is made by Pro-Teq Surfacing UK Ltd and it works by storing sunlight energy during the day which reacts with particles in the aggregate formula to glow when the sun goes down.
This step by step video demonstrates how the Pro-Teq team carefully produces this new pavement.
Cambridge County Council has been so captivated by the speckled starry substance that they have dared to be the first authority to trial it. At time when councils have to cut budgets by 20% by 2015 innovative solutions like these make sense to counter street lighting cut backs especially as it can be used on any existing surface.
Hamish Scott Owner of Pro-Teq Surfacing (UK) Ltd claims: There is nothing like Starpath in the world. This product adjusts to the natural light so if it is pitch black outside the luminous natural earth enhances and if the sky is lighter it wont release as much luminosity it adjusts accordingly its almost like it has a mind of its own.
