VIDEO | Solar Freakin Roadways
Ok forget the American zany accent for one minute and listen to the true message of this video; a brighter future in roads using sustainable energy the sun!
And before your mind casts doubt on such an idea really tune into what this technology can bring. A future where we can have our cake and eat it!
Yes we can still drive our cars still ride our bikes and enjoy the landscape all the while. Solar Roadways will even generate energy from the sun giving us electricity to power lights on the road to help us see through the night and melt any snow on the road.
Now we must face our greatest challenge and guilt; harvesting the planet of all its natural resources and not giving anything back. Ever since the industrial revolution we have been taking from the Earth for (oil based) tarmac for new roads asphalt to repair potholes electricity for street lights metal for road signs salt for gritting and paint for line marking. Can you think of a few more?
Solar roads eliminate the need for all these services and jobs and resources. And why would you hate such a technology? Because that would put many people within the Highways Industry out of a job!
It is understandable then that this technology might come against some passive resistance from many of us in highways. Who wants to lose their job after all? That is how we bring the bread home how we feed our families and protect our well-being.
But we are at a crossroads where climate change is causing floods like in April this year where droughts like a summer ago are leaving us without water and hurricanes from the USA this past summer are battering our tiny island.
When do we say enough is enough? How many more homes must be ruined? How much money do we need to waste to clean up this mess?
Solar Freakin Roadways will in itself create a new industry a new highways industry with new businesses and new people running them. And because this technology makes so much sense for a sustainable future it may not be long until we see it here I the UK.
In the USA this project was put on crowd funding platform Indiegogo backed by the people. And it has made an unbelievable £1390000 and is still growing! The people voted for a sustainable future using their hard earned cash £1 at a time.
So when an idea like this inevitably hits the UK would you donate a pound?
